Looks Like Beirut or Does It?

A great accuracy lesson for journalism students is the site Looks Like Beirut, which scours the web for inaccurate comparisons of burn out cities, disheveled closets and other images of chaos to downtown Beirut.

While 20 years ago, that may have been the case, the city’s downtown today is a land of Gucci and other high-end shops. The site’s creator explains: ” I track the over-used, tired, cliche to describe destruction, demise and doom :: looks like Beirut.”

If you fall in this category, be aware you might even be awarded an official “Looks Like Beirut” certificate.
